WSC Adult Beginners Course for WSC Members.
If you would like to start dinghy sailing come and join the WSC 2025 beginners course. The course covers single handed sailing and will give you the skills you need to get afloat. Whether you want to stay ahead of the kids, get the skills to move into the Adult Sailing or Women (and men) on Water sessions, get the confidence to crew dinghy races or just start to get afloat and take it from there then this course is for you. While it does not provide an official RYA qualification, it follows the Level 1-2 syllabus. It includes 2 theory sessions to enable you to maximise your time in the 3 practical on the water sessions. Kindly run by one of our awesome volunteers, there is only a small charge to cover books and resources. You will need suitable clothing (Wetsuit and lifejacket). We can take a maximum of 6 people, so sign up asap!
This course will run over 5 sessions, including 2 theory sessions and 3 practical sessions;
- Tues 14th April 1930 - 2130: Theory in Lobster Quay Classroom
- Tues 28th April 1930 - 2130: Theory in Lobster Quay Classroom
- Fri 17th April 0900 - 1300 (HW 1128): Practical session in Kipper Pond, meet at Lobster Quay Dinghy Pound
- Fri 1st May 1000 - 1330 (HW 1200): Practical session in Kipper Pond, meet at Lobster Quay Dinghy Pound
- Fri 15th May 0900 - 1230 (HW 1012): Practical session in Kipper Pond, meet at Lobster Quay Dinghy Pound
N.B. This course is only available to Club Members. Please ensure you attend the two theory sessions to prepare for the practical training sessions.
The course is a WSC Beginners course for adults. The cost of the course includes; RYA Theory book, Use of club boats.
Personal Clothing Kit You Will Need:
Essential:
- Buoyancy aid
- Wet shoes (i.e. neoprene shoes) or trainers that don't matter if they get wet
- Wetsuit - recommend long legs and long or short arms
- Waterproof jacket
If you have them, you should also bring:
- Sailing gloves
- Dry socks (best way to keep feet warm in addition to wet shoes/ trainers)
- Hat or cap (that doesn't matter if it gets wet)
- Rash vest to go underneath wetsuits for added comfort
